University Credit
Build Your Future College Application!
ECI’s university credit option is an invaluable asset in today’s competitive realm of higher education. It gives high school students the opportunity to earn up to three Spanish/French semester units through an accredited US university. These credits are transferable and are accepted by most accredited universities in the United States.
We have two accredited US universities working with us on our Spain, France & Costa Rica programs:
- Truman State University, in Missouri
- The University of Southern Mississippi
General Information about Earning Credit
- Students who opt to earn credit for these programs will be given a course number and description by the universities, which will be based on a placement test. The course will be worth up to three semester units of credit.
- Truman State University and USM will award a letter grade to all students taking the course for credit.
- Transcripts remain on file for students to use when they apply for and ultimately attend a university after high school. Three units of credit are equal to one semester-long course at a university.
- Students must sign up for credit in the spring prior to their summer program.
- All enrollment paperwork for university credit is sent directly to students by ECI.
- With most programs, a placement test is taken online prior to departure, usually in April/May.
- Students enrolled in university credit will generally have additional homework, a paper to write, a short presentation in class and a final exam. Specific details of these requirements will be sent to you prior to the time you must make your decision to enroll for the credit (usually in the spring).
- Following the completion of the program, the university assigns the participant a letter grade that goes on an official transcript.
- Students can include the completion of this course on their college applications and send out copies of their official transcript to their prospective universities/colleges. Students can also choose NOT to send out the transcript, based on their satisfaction with their letter grade.
